From the Greenville Advocate. Mrs. Ellen Newton. On the night of October 1st the death angel visited the home of Mrs. Donald Campbell and carried away the soul of her devoted mother, Mrs. Ellen Newton, eighty-odd years of age. She was the wife of the late Benjamin Newton, who preceded her to the grave several years ago. Grandma Newton: as she was most commonly called, was a faithful member of the Baptist church and a most devout christian. She lived a most useful life and was very active until about a year ago, when ill health fell upon her. To know her was to love her. Her death has made a vacant place in the homes of her children that can never be filled. Funeral sevices were conducted by Rev. H. Ross Arnold, assisted by Rev. E. A. Mohns, Hr., and the remains laid to rest in the family lot a Ebenezer Baptist cemetery on Saturday, October 4th. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Donald Campbell of Chapman; Mrs. Cabe Salter, Greenville; and Miss Pearlie Newton, Norfolk, Va; and four sons, Messrs. E. A. Newton, Auburn; Mr.Lehlan Newton, Chapman; and J. O. and Bruce Newton of Greenville, besides a number of grand children and other relatives.
